Dr. Eng. Joseph Oketch is the Acting Director General, providing overall strategic leadership of the Authority.
He oversees the regulation of Kenya’s energy sector across the entire value chain, including electricity generation, transmission, distribution and retail, as well as upstream, midstream and downstream petroleum operations. He is also responsible for the formulation, review and enforcement of regulations, standards and codes governing the electricity and renewable energy subsectors.
Dr. Oketch has over 25 years of experience in the energy sector. Prior to his appointment as Acting Director General, he served as Director, Electricity and Renewable Energy for ten (10) years. Before joining the Authority, he held senior roles at Kenya Power and the Rural Electrification Authority (REA).
He holds a Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering from the University of Nairobi, a Master of Business Administration (Strategic Management) and a Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) in Strategic Management from Kenyatta University, as well as a Postgraduate Diploma in Project Planning and Management from the University of Nairobi.
He is a Member of the Institute of Engineers of Kenya (IEK) and the Kenya Institute of Management (KIM), and is a Registered Professional Engineer with the Engineers Board of Kenya (EBK).
