Eng. Edward Kinyua, is the  Director General providing overall strategic leadership of the Authority.

He oversees the regulation of Kenya’s energy sector across the entire value chain, including electricity generation, transmission, distribution and retail, as well as upstream, midstream and downstream petroleum operations. He is also responsible for the formulation, review and enforcement of regulations, standards and codes governing the electricity and renewable energy subsectors.. 
He holds a Master of Science in Energy Management from the University of Nairobi and a Bachelor of Technology in Mechanical and Production Engineering from Moi University.

Eng. Kinyua has a wealth experience in the energy sector spanning over 14 years in various organizations including Total Kenya Limited. He is a registered professional Engineer with the Engineers Board of Kenya (EBK) and is a corporate member of the Institution of Engineers of Kenya (IEK).
